Passing of Local Community Minister

On Saturday, January 31, Rev. Tom Matlock passed away due to complications of the heart.
Rev. Matlock was founder and president of Insight for Inmates, which is a ministry that has been influential not only locally but also in the national scene. Insight for Inmates also has been a major contributor for local Christmas toy drives through the Greenwood Police Department.

Service for Rev. Matlock will be held Wednesday 10 am, Word Of Life Center, Shreveport.

Obituary
Rev. Tommy Lee Matlock
(August 2, 1951 - January 30, 2010)

Rev. Tommy Lee Matlock, 59, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 4:10 a.m. after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Osborn Funeral Home. Memorial services will begin at 10 a.m. on February 3rd at Word of Life Center. Officiating will be Rev. Sam Carr of Word of Life Center assisted by Rev. Gary Cavalier of Castaway Ministries and Rev. Carlton Gilmer. Interment will follow after the service. Rev. Matlock was a native of Pearland, Texas and a resident of Shreveport, LA. He was the founder of Insight for Inmates, Inc. and served those who were incarcerated for over 30 years. He devoted his time to his family, friends and the inmates of the Louisiana Prison System. He was a referee for the Shreveport Association of the LHSAA. He was an avid fan of Evangel Football and a member of the chain gang.

Rev. Matlock was preceded in death by his father, James Matlock; mother, Shirley Mable Woolen; and his sister; Jeanne Savell. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, E. J. Matlock; two daughters, Morgan Matlock and Heather Matlock-McFarland and husband, Marvin; one son, Micah Matlock; one grandson, Daniel Pylant; one sister, Sandy Ellis and husband, Marvin; and one brother, Jimmy Matlock and wife, Pam. Pallbearers will be Lance Rogers, Chance Doyal, Patrick Yeager, Robert Floyd, Dave Kreamer, Rev. Carlton Gilmer, Kevin Pickens and Herbert Bledsoe. Honorary pallbearers will be the Evangel Football team and the men and women who are incarcerated that could not be here today.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Insight for Inmates, Inc., P.O. Box 17717, Shreveport, LA 71138. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Jackson, Dr. Karmaker and Dr. Zabaneh for their continued care. Also, to the staff of Willis-Knighton Dialysis Outpatient Clinic and the Shreveport Hyperbaric Center that took excellent care of him. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
